Yes, that's right.... Tesla Model S is, once again, Consumer Reports top pick!
We were pleased to see this NBC4 Washington* "Consumer Watch" reporter (in video above), also take a deeper look into what it takes to receive praise from the hard-nosed critics at Consumer Reports. She reports on why Consumer Reports is considered the "gold standard" for product reviews. What did she find? Around since the 1930s, Consumer Reports tests everything from spinach to treadmills, some 300 to 400 products a year. Secret shoppers purchase products at full price and bring them back to the Consumer Reports testing facilities for rigorous testing. Once testing is completed, products are auctioned or sold to employees. Only 20% of Consumer Reports funding comes from donors, the rest comes from millions of paid subscriptions (both magazine and online) - there is no advertising and no corporate money. It's unlike any product review in the media landscape... and this is why so many put so much faith into it's reviews.
Thus, Consumer Reports remains (arguably) the best “litmus test” when considering a car purchase, as it’s a tough critic with no stake in the outcome except delivering the cold, hard truth. So what was their take on the Tesla Model S? In 2013, Consumer Reports named the Tesla Model S the Best Car Ever Tested with an overall rating was 99/100. And, in 2014, Consumer Reports awarded the Model S with the Most Loved Car Award. And, a few weeks back, Consumer Reports named Tesla Motors #1 for service and repairs.
Then, as evidenced above, this week Consumer Reports awarded the 2015 Tesla Model S their top overall pick of all cars. It received a 99 out of 100 score. The reserved folks at Consumer Reports were a bit more expressive when describing the winning Model S: "For all of the impressive new vehicles released in 2014, none was able to eclipse the innovation, magnificence, and sheer technological arrogance of the Tesla. That’s why it’s our best overall pick for the second consecutive year... The Model S is a technological tour de force, a high-performance electric vehicle with usable real-world range, wrapped in a luxury package."
