    Optional Add-ons

"The Undercover" add-on option is designed to cover up the small access port on the bottom panel of the Tesla Model S when the hitch adapter is removed. This helps to maintain aesthetics, OEM aerodynamics, and reduces possibility of dust or debris entry. In addition, you may select the "Ball Mount Adapter" add-on in the alternate size of your EcoHitch so that you have the availability to use either receiver size.

    The Undercover

EcoHitch for the Tesla Model S is designed specifically so that the hitch itself remains hidden. This is achieved with a removable hitch adapter. This leaves only a small access port for the hitch on the bottom of the Model S panel where dust and debris could potentially enter.

The Undercover optional add-on is designed to cover the small access port on the bottom panel of the Tesla Model S when the hitch adapter is removed. This helps to maintain aesthetics, OEM aerodynamics, and reduces the possibility of dust or debris entry.

Remove the hitch adapter from the EcoHitch and slide The Undercover in its place. This allows your Model S to remain in "stealth mode" when not in use. Simply pull down on the tab to remove The Undercover and the EcoHitch is back in action and ready to use.

The Undercover uses a special high-tech magnet that has over 55 pounds of pulling force, yet removes easily with one hand. It is lined with EPDM rubber weatherseal that will not harden, crack or freeze and it retains its shape in sub-zero temperatures.

    FAQ

    Where is the EcoHitch manufactured?

The EcoHitch is designed and manufactured in the USA. The EcoHitch is 100% made in the United States with top quality materials.

Does the EcoHitch require drilling the frame?

The EcoHitch is a 100% no drill application and utilizes existing holes in the frame.

What towing weight is the EcoHitch rated for?

The EcoHitch is rated for 200 pounds tongue weight, 2,000 pounds towing weight.

What is the ground clearance from the receiver to the ground?

The EcoHitch has been designed so that the receiver portion will either fit directly under your bumper cover or be completely concealed leaving no ground clearance concerns at all. When the receiver does fit directly under the bumper, with a 2" receiver, it will fit approximately 2.5 inches below the bumper cover. With a 1.25" receiver, it will fit approximately 2 inches below the bumper cover. Measuring from the ground to the bumper cover in those instances minus the receiver size will give you the receiver ground clearance. Please keep in mind when installing bike racks or other accessories to understand your limitations in relation to sloped driveways and other driving obstacles to avoid damaging your accessories.

Will the EcoHitch stand up to the weather where I live?

By concealing 90% of our hitch, in most cases above a weather guard and behind the bumper cover, we have reduced exposure to the EcoHitch. EcoHitch has a high impact powder coat finish, making it harder to rust in different weather conditions. Attention should be given to your hitch's finish over time, as every environment is unique. If a nick or scratch does occur, simply touch up with rust inhibiting automotive enamel based paint.

    Does EcoHitch require professional installation?

Yes, professional installation is required for EcoHitch. Please be sure to refer your professional installer to the video and written instructions under the "Installation" tab on this page.

Where can I find a good local professional installer?

It is recommended that you use a well-regarded local body shop with experience working on the Tesla Model S. Body shops tend to have the most experience with the removal of auto body panels and related tools and techniques. EVANNEX cannot recommend professional installers in every locale worldwide, although in some instances we may be able to refer you to another installer that one of our customers have recommended.

What kind of paint is used on EcoHitch? Is it Sandblasted? What color will it be? Can I get a custom color? Can I get it undercoated?

EcoHitch is sandblasted and high impact powder coated. The standard color is hammertone black and all EcoHitch products are delivered in that color/finish. If you would like a custom color or undercoating, you can inquire about modifications post-delivery with your local installer and/or aftermarket shop.

Does the EcoHitch require post-installation care or maintenance?

To minimize corrosion from environmental factors on powder coated steel products, it's recommended that you regularly clean and inspect the powder coated surface and touch up any affected areas with enamel or urethane based aerosol paint products. If there are areas of surface rust, there are also aerosol spray rust converters available that can be used as a preparation to touch-up paint application. These finish maintenance products are available at any automotive parts supplier. These finish maintenance products are available at any automotive parts supplier. Recommendation: Krylon brand Rust Tough enamel paint code R00799 gloss black for the best possible finish match.

Please note: to protect product finish, all EcoHitch powder coated products are sandblasted for maximum adhesion of our high quality industrial urethane based powder coat. Due to the extreme and harsh undercar environment that your products live in (consistently sprayed with corrosive road chemicals such as salt and road debris), please note: EcoHitch does not warranty the powder coated finish, as this is common among manufacturers.

Does the EcoHitch come with attachments for my bike or skis?

No. EcoHitch is sold as the hitch only. You will need to buy the attachment of your choice elsewhere. Make sure the hitch attachment you purchase matches the size of the EcoHitch you order, either 2" or 1 1/4".

Do I need accessory straps for my bike rack?

EcoHitch does not require you to have accessory straps for your bike rack. The hitches are built with strength in mind so that the specified tongue weight applies to wheeled as well as wheel less loads (i.e. bike racks, cargo trays, chair lifts, etc.).

Do you have an Anti-Rattle built into your hitch?

No, most bike racks come with anti-rattle built into the rack itself. If the rack is not equipped with anti-rattle already, an anti-rattle device may be purchased to remove the play from the bike rack.

What size receiver should I get?

Deciding between a 1.25" and a 2" receiver is based on personal preference. The 2" receiver will be more universal and easier to find accessories for. The 1.25" while less universal allows for a more discrete install and overall more clean aesthetics. Be sure you check what size your accessory is (e.g. bike rack, cargo tray) before deciding what size receiver to buy.

Does the EcoHitch affect aerodynamics and/or the Tesla Model S range?

Yes, any modification to the Tesla Model S exterior will have some impact on aerodynamics and range. The EcoHitch will have less impact than any kind of roof rack. And, calculating the impact on range would be dependent on a myriad of factors, such as: how many passengers are in the vehicle, wind, weather, topography, if the vehicle is carrying skis, bikes, etc. Customers have reported minimal impact on aerodynamics/range and have expressed a great deal of satisfaction with EcoHitch's ability to enable the Tesla Model S to safely haul skis, snowboards, bicycles, or other equipment.

    What is your return policy?

If you are not satisfied with your purchase, we want the opportunity to make the situation right. You may return or exchange unused items within 15 days of the date of purchase. Items must be unused, not previously installed, and in the original packaging. We will thoroughly inspect all items before issuing a credit. Please include a copy of your order confirmation and any RMA numbers with your returns. The customer is responsible for all freight costs when returning an item for non-warranty situations. Prices are subject to change at any time. Your product will be refunded minus a 15% restock fee unless further repairs are needed to bring the hitch back to resale condition in which case you will be notified of the additional charges.

    What is the product warranty?

Each EcoHitch comes with a lifetime warranty, please refer to our Product Warranty page for details.

How long does it take to receive my EcoHitch?

We target delivery for U.S. orders in 2 to 3 weeks.

Does the EcoHitch ship to international destinations?

Yes. EcoHitch is shipped to worldwide via FedEx International.

    Review

    As seen in Teslarati

Our EcoHitch came with the 2” receiver but there is a 1 ¼” available. It will hug anything you slide into it, including bike racks, ski /snowboard rack attachments and light trailers... The EcoHitch weighs in at under 30 pounds (according to the spec sheet) but don’t let that little number fool you. Sure, it’s lighter than a 3rd grader but still hefty enough you wouldn’t want to encounter a maniac wielding one in a dark alley. The hitch arrives in a well packed box and you can’t help but note the paint is thick and well applied, the hardware high quality and the design is very clever.

With the hitch installed and the car back together the result was… absolutely invisible from any normal standing height. This isn’t an accessory you buy to show off. There is no bling. The only indication anything has happened is the hole in the diffuser with just enough room to comfortably fit your wrist into and to work a socket wrench to attach the drop post receiver. Even that can be disguised– Torklift makes a [The Undercover] magnetic cover (also ingenious) that “thonks” up into the receiver slot so even the underbody aerodynamics are preserved.

If hauling bikes (or winter sporting gear) without giving yourself and your car a bump on the dome is a priority, a hitch rack is going to be your best play... [EcoHitch] offers the only means to mount one and, quite frankly, they’ve done an astoundingly good job designing and making a rack for this niche market and should be commended for doing so. - Matt Simmons, Teslarati
