If you live in one of the 31 states (in the U.S.) that require a front license plate, The Law - Front License Plate Bracket for Model S provides an easy solution. The Law -Front License Plate Bracket is a precision, bolt-on product that’s weather resistant, easy to install, requires no drilling, and is 100% removable. If you require a front license plate, Tesla Motors provides a license plate frame that requires drilling three holes into the Model S nose cone. Not only does this permanently modify the front of your nose cone but it could potentially reduce the resale value of the car. Instead, The Law - Front License Plate Bracket is mounted securely in the air dam honeycomb grill of your Model S, allowing it to be easily removed. It is located in an area that does not interfere with any of the front mounted proximity and forward-looking sensors.
Whether you’re looking to add a stylistic touch to your Tesla Model S, or you live in a state where a front license plate display is required by law (photo below), this bracket has you covered.

Pre-Installation: Locate the upper portion of the grille of the Model S. This license plate kit is designed to be placed in the center location on the upper grille piece. It is strongly recommended that you do not try to force the bracket into any other location on the grille other than the row shown in the photo 1 below. You may run the risk of scratching the paint and/or being unable to remove the bracket in the future. The entire installation process shouldn’t take more than 10-15 minutes.
Quick Start Installation Steps:
Step 1. Locate the center of the upper air dam grille. Using the front Tesla “T” as a center point, identify the center of the grille directly below the “T.”
Step. 2. Insert the nut assembly into the grille by gently pushing it through the "honey-comb" openings in the grill and rotating the assembly upwards so that the threaded nuts face the grill as shown below. Note: There may be a piece of wiring running along the upper portion of the grill noted by the arrow, that may make it difficult to rotate the knot plate assembly into place. Gently push the wire upwards to allow the nut plate assembly to rotate into its proper position.

Step 3. Align the holes in the nut plate assembly with the “honeycomb” openings in the air dam grille. To properly align the threaded holes of the nut plate assembly with the honeycomb openings in the grille, it may be necessary to place a small shim under the base of the nut plate assembly to raise it just slightly. This will allow the 1.25” fastening bolts to be passed through the grille without any problem.

Step. 4. With the nut plate assembly properly positioned behind the grill, add license plate bracket to the assembly (Photo 2). Take to 1.25-inch Allen head bolts and lock washers (provided) and thread the license plate bracket to the nut plate assembly in the grill. Tighten the fasteners until the washers crush. We recommend hand tightening the fasteners. Warning: Do not over tighten the bolts!

Step 5. Attach your license plate by lining up the two lower holes in the plate and using the remaining smaller Allen head bolts and lock washers and install the license plate to the bracket. Hand-tighten until the lock washers crush. Warning: Do not over-tighten!
Congratulations you have completed the install process.
