Designed and tested to specifically fit over Tesla Model S stock factory brake calipers, Caliper Covers provide a “big brake” race-ready look that will turn heads. MGP knows that many want caliper covers for appearance. To that end, they make their Caliper Covers so they don't just hide an unattractive part, but create a look of their own.
These Caliper Covers not only look fantastic, but they also act as a protective brake dust shield to help keep your rims looking cleaner longer. In other words, far less time spent cleaning intricate wheel designs. If you're fastidious about your wheels, then you know what kind of problem brake dust can be. Caliper Covers direct the air and dust toward back side of wheel, keeping the front of the wheel much cleaner.
Your calipers will also run cooler with MGP Caliper Covers. MGP did field testing on their Caliper Covers. Utilizing an infrared heat detector, there was anywhere from a 20-50 degree difference in brake temperatures. The increased surface area in direct contact with your brake calipers provides a very large heat sink for your brakes.
“It is common engineering knowledge that increasing surface area allows heat to dissipate thus reducing the temperature build up. Electronic components use aluminum heat sinks as common practice to reduce heat build up. We wanted to assure customers that the MGP Caliper Cover does not increase heat, it actually reduces it.” - Mike Barland, MGP President
MGP Caliper Covers give the heat your brakes build up a way to dissipate out of the system more rapidly. Lower overall temperatures could, in turn, give your Model S less brake fade potentially resulting in better/shorter stopping distances, increased brake pad life, increased brake rotor life, and reduced rotor warpage. For more, see the "Videos" tab to check out MGP's Heat Testing video.
MGP President, Mike Barland began development of Caliper Covers after purchasing aftermarket wheels for his vehicle. The wheels were larger in diameter and opened up the viewing area behind the wheel. The aftermarket wheel design was aesthetically pleasing but exposed one of the most unappealing components on the vehicle - the Brake Caliper.
Aftermarket brake kits were expensive and the vehicle did not need the extra braking power. The options on the market were plastic covers held on with silicon or aluminum covers held on with double back tape. Painting the Caliper was a messy, dirty, all day event yielding unsatisfactory aesthetic results. The challenge was to develop a quality form fitting Caliper Cover to meet factory wheel clearances and fasten securely for easy installation. This endeavor took Barland and his team at MGP almost four years of engineering work.
After examining multiple design options, testing confirmed a clip and fastener system was best to hold the Caliper Cover. The stainless steel fastening system is patent pending. To date MGP has developed nearly 600 applications for their Caliper Covers for a wide variety of vehicles. When a new model or brake system comes out, MGP uses pilot cars to develop a precision product for their customers.
“Each MGP Caliper Cover is designed and developed using a test pilot vehicle. Plate size, bridge configuration, clips design, wheel clearance, hub clearance are all taken into consideration.” - Mike Barland, MGP President
MGP Caliper Covers are built and tested based on the actual cars that consumers are buying. With MGP Caliper Covers, Model S owners can choose a quality, award-winning* product, designed specifically for the Model S, made in the U.S.A., adding style and color behind the wheel as well as function by reducing brake dust and dissipating heat. *Photos (at right): MGP's SEMA Awards
Professional Installation is advised.
Installation time: Average installation time is about one hour.
Tools required: Safety glasses, floor jack, impact wrench or lug wrench, torque wrench, 3/8" wrench, 0.13mm paper feeler gauge (included with set). Note: there is no tape, glue, adhesive, or brake caliper modifications involved in the installation.
Will caliper covers fit with my Model S wheels?
NOTE: Yes, Caliper Covers fit all versions of the Model S (including rear wheel drive and dual motor all-wheel drive "D" models). These custom-fit Caliper Covers have been designed for optimal fitment for both 21" and 19" Model S factory wheels, but, 19" factory (or aftermarket) wheels can only accommodate the "Set of Four" option.
MGP Caliper Covers will guarantee brake caliper fitment when utilizing the appropriate MGP Caliper Cover part number specific to the Model S. In addition, installation must be performed in adherence to the included installation instructions.
MGP's Caliper Covers are designed for a close fit. If you have aftermarket wheels and would like to determine whether you have enough clearance, measure from the back of the wheel to the front of the caliper. If you have 1/8" (approximately 3mm) of clearance, you have enough space. To test - if you can slide two stacked quarters between the brake caliper and the wheel, you should have enough clearance. If a vehicle has been fitted with aftermarket wheels, it is the customer’s responsibility to verify a 3mm clearance prior to placing the order. Because of the vast variety of aftermarket wheels, it is imperative that this be executed before an order is placed. MGP Caliper Covers require 3mm of clearance between the brake caliper and the inside face of the wheel. If a customer is unsure as to whether the wheel configuration has the necessary clearance, it is recommended that you contact us prior to placing an order. See photo below for an example of a customer with Caliper Covers installed on a Model S with aftermarket wheels.
Do the caliper covers hurt or help with heat dissipation?
They help. MGP has conducted heat testing that demonstrates improved heat dissipation. Ford, GM, and Mopar also have conducted heat, vibration and corrosion tests prior to granting MGP official licensing. The Caliper Cover only covers the front of the caliper allowing all heat to escape up through the top of the caliper. See “Features” tab for more on heat dissipation, and "Videos" tab to watch MGP's Field Heat Testing.
Will caliper covers reduce brake dust on my wheels?
MGP customers report a significant decrease in brake dust after installation of MGP Caliper Covers. See the “Features” tab for more.
If I'm using Regen with my Model S, will brake dust or heat dissipation still be factor?
You'll still use your brakes. But it's true that you'll use your brakes less in a Model S than someone driving an ICE vehicle due to regenerative braking.
To get that "pop" of color, can't I just order red calipers with my Model S?
The latest iteration of the Tesla Model S Design Studio is only offering red calipers with the P85D - so it's limited and there is substantial cost associated with this option.
What about painting my calipers?
You can try painting your calipers, but be prepared for a lot of work. First, you'll need to get the whole car up on jack stands. Then you'll have to decide whether to paint them in place or disassemble them. Either way, everything will have to be completely clean or the paint won't stick. If you're painting the calipers in place, you'll need to use a brush, but there will be areas that will be hard to get to. Caliper Covers provide a more convenient and cleaner approach.
Can I purchase aftermarket brake calipers instead?
Aftermarket calipers can certainly provide a different look, and, depending on the brand, they might work better than your stock calipers, but the high price point (sometimes thousands of dollars) for aftermarket brake calipers should only be considered if you mainly want an upgrade in brake function. Tesla's factory brake calipers are made by Brembo, so brake performance is already top-notch.
Why not install custom plastic brake covers?
Installing plastic covers on brake calipers is discouraged by many in the industry. The reason: a brake system converts the forward motion of the vehicle into heat by pressing the brake pads against the rotors, the plastic could melt causing your brakes to malfunction. In addition, be prepared to spend time trying to fabricate them to fit, often difficult installation, and, not worth the hassle. And, post-installation, it can be difficult getting them to stay in place.
Do caliper covers form-fit to the surface shape of my calipers like plastic brake covers?
No. Caliper Covers simply cover what many consider an unattractive part of the wheel, the brake caliper. Check out our "Gallery" or "Videos" tab for a closer look.
Will the red coating on my caliper covers hold up to the heat?
Caliper Covers are powder coated for high heat, durability and toughness.
Are caliper covers removable for brake service?
Yes. Reverse installation, remove, and replace after service.
Can I order a blank caliper cover or one with a color of my choice?
No, the only options available are the options in our pull-down menu.
Does the red used on Caliper Covers perfectly match the Tesla red body paint?
No, the red used for Caliper Covers is called “Red Baron.” It is a fairly standard color used by most of the popular big brake companies. Nearly all customers with red cars are perfectly fine with this color. Since the brakes are not against the body of the vehicle, the red being slightly different is not very blatant / obvious. And, according to our customers, it blends in nicely and looks very sharp. However, this is subjective.
I noticed in the 'Videos' tab, that some videos show MGP caliper covers with OEM logos, are there MGP caliper covers with the tesla logo?
Although MGP is licensed to manufacture Caliper Covers containing the logos, names, or emblems of several automobile manufacturers (e.g. GM, Ford, Mopar, Shelby, etc.), it is not currently licensed by Tesla Motors. Therefore, if MGP is not licensed by a specific automobile manufacturer, MGP cannot provide any logo, word, model identification, or emblem that may infringe on that manufacturer’s trademarks.
Can I install caliper covers myself?
Professional installation is advised. Instructions will be provided with the product for the installer and instructions are also available in digital format within our "Instructions" tab (and we've also included an instructional video as reference in our "Videos" tab). Note: professional installation of Caliper Covers should take 45 minutes - 2 hours depending on the installer.
Where can I find a professional installer?
In every area, there are competent wheel and tire service centers / shops that have specialty in aftermarket product installation, these installers tend to be the most adept at installs like Caliper Covers. However, it is imperative that you ask your installer follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer, MGP. Note: although we've had reports of some customers having their aftermarket products installed at a Tesla Service Center, in general, this is unlikely as their policy is not to install aftermarket parts.
What is the warranty for the caliper covers?
All MGP products include a three-year warranty against manufacturer’s defects from the date of purchase which covers defects in materials and workmanship. This warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, excessive abuse, misuse, improper installation or damage caused during installation.
Fitment: MGP Caliper Covers will guarantee brake caliper fitment when utilizing the appropriate MGP Caliper Cover part number specific to the vehicle application. In addition, installation must be performed in adherence to the included installation instructions.
Claims: All Warranty Claims must include the original proof of purchase. Customers must include an explanation of the claim and contact information. Product and any hardware should be shipped to: MGP Caliper Covers, Warranty & Returns Department, 616 Marsat Ct., Chula Vista, CA 91911.
What is the return policy for the caliper covers?
If you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, you may return it for a refund within 30 days of receipt of the shipment. Item must be in its original condition, original packaging and not have been worn, damaged or installed. To ensure proper handling of your return and return address, please contact us for a Return Merchandise Authorization number.
How long does it take to ship caliper covers?

Teslarati Review: MGP Caliper Covers
"The MGP Model S Red Brake Caliper Covers adds personality and color to the factory Tesla Brembo brakes...
|You can’t get more ubiquitous than Brembo’s championship red when it comes to the world of high performance brakes. Tesla Motors offers red brake calipers as a ‘free’ upgrade on the factory four piston Brembo brakes on the top-of-the-line 85 kWh Performance Model S. Owners of the 60 kWh or Standard 85 kWh Model S won’t fair as well unless they opt for a pricey $3,100 retrofit which entails caliper disassembly, painting and reassembly of the brake system – a hassle, but also an expensive commitment with no turning back. Thus the inspiration of California-based MGP Caliper Covers, manufacturer of the removable lightweight all aluminum Tesla Model S Red Brake Caliper Covers carried exclusively by EVannex.|
|All said, MGP’s Tesla Model S red brake caliper covers are stunning to look at and add a real high performance look to the entire wheel assembly. Red may not be the look for everyone so luckily EVannex carries a variety of colors including black, matte black and your choice of custom colors.|
|You can’t miss the eye catching powder coated red (also available in custom colors) of the caliper covers. It’s glossy, bright and beautiful. The feel of the caliper covers are much lighter than one would think, thanks to its aerospace aluminum construction.||
|Give the Tesla Model S brake calipers a race-ready look without paint, adhesive or caliper modifications. At $230 for a set of four and $330 for six, MGP Tesla Model S Red Brake Caliper Covers provide a cost effective (relative to the $3,100 Tesla Motors red brake retrofit) way to dress up the wheel assembly and add a touch of Motorsport performance."|
