Tesla CEO Elon Musk: Key Quotes, Volume 2

Welcome back to Volume 2 of our favorite all-time quotes from Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk. If you missed our first installment, check out Volume 1 as well. When Musk was younger he was co-founder of Paypal helping to revolutionize the nascent online payments industry. Fast forward to the present -- Musk has his hands (full) in disparate industries, disrupting each with his own unique, iconoclastic approach. In addition to his groundbreaking work at Tesla Motors, Musk also splits his time as CEO of aerospace pioneer SpaceX, and, as Chairman of SolarCity, the country's largest provider of solar energy. What mindset is necessary in order to do all of this... and do it successfully? A look at some of these quotes might provide some clues...

"The first step is to establish that something is possible; then probability will occur."

As Tesla Model S deliveries grow, so does the Tesla Motors (TSLA) stock. Tesla reported their third quarter earnings and the market responded, TSLA surged. Elon Musk has big plans for Tesla Motors, and, during the earnings call, he announced that in the fourth quarter, Tesla plans on rolling out a record-breaking 17,000 to 19,000 vehicles (including the first wave of Tesla Model X deliveries).

"I've actually made a prediction that within 30 years a majority of new cars made in the United States will be electric. And I don't mean hybrid. I mean fully electric."

Elon Musk is making enormous strides to ensure that electrification becomes a reality for the automotive industry. Just recently, Elon Musk sat down with investing icon Ron Baron and discussed the next model to be released by Tesla Motors, the Model 3. Musk is planning to release the Model 3 with more "mass market" appeal as the price point is said to start at $35,000 (with a 200-mile range). It will be comparable in size to the BMW 3 Series, but still have similar traits to the Tesla Model S.

"Patience is a virtue, and I'm learning patience. It's a tough lesson."

Without a doubt, Elon Musk's passion and persistence has gotten him very far. However, he admits  to working fast. But, he recently sat down for an interview on NPR's business program, Marketplace, to discuss Tesla Motors' plans and elaborated on the great lengths, deliberation, iterations (and patience) necessary to get those Tesla Model X "falcon wing" doors just right (listen at 12.25).
