Electric Enthusiasm: Ellen DeGeneres wants a Tesla Model 3

Tesla Motors [NASDAQ: TSLA] is a popular brand with many celebrities. However, Tesla says it's unique in that it doesn't do any advertising or endorsements - a common practice at other major car companies. However, that didn't stop Ellen DeGeneres from saying, "I want one of those new Teslas" (see below) in her monologue this week. Ellen seems to really love cars and its been reported that, "you can take Ellen DeGeneres’s words [about Tesla] to the bank. We already know that Ellen is a bonafide gearhead."

It didn't end in her monologue. Later in her show, Ellen also did a quick skit that provides a funny behind-the-scenes look at how Tesla Motors plans to produce the Model 3 for a lower cost. Hmmm.... if only it was that easy!

CEO Elon Musk and Tesla Motors have also been featured with numerous talk show hosts including Jay Leno, Conan O'Brien, and Stephen Colbert, who featured Musk on his much-hyped episode #2 of the Late Show. And each of them proudly owns a Tesla too. Oh, almost forgot -- Oprah Winfrey also owns a Tesla Model S.

Jokes aside, it's great to see Ellen bringing more attention to Elon Musk and Tesla. Hopefully, she adds to the 325,000 folks who've already put down a reservation on the Model 3. It makes sense, Ellen's got a history of supporting and promoting electric vehicles...

In the past, Ellen presented Justin Bieber with a Fisker Karma plug-in hybrid electric vehicle for his 18th birthday "live" on an episode of her show. And, for National Drive Electric Week, Ellen actually gave away some Ford Focus all-electric vehicles on her show. In any event, we won't be surprised if Ellen announces that she's pre-ordered the Model 3, and, we definitely hope to see more Tesla coverage on future episodes of her show.
