For this epic face off, the Mercedes AMG GT 63 4-door coupe tries its luck against the Tesla Model S P100D 4-door sedan in a quarter-mile drag race — 4.0-liter V8 engine vs. dual-motor fully electric powertrain.

The race was set up by the passionate Lovecars / YouTube channel who include some great shots of both cars during the two race attempts — some spectacular cinematography.
Both of these 4-door monsters weigh above two tons each. Even so, they're able to perform viciously on the drag strip. The Tesla Model S with Ludicrous Mode ON remains a force to be reckoned with — nevertheless, the Merc AMG GT 63 has the guts (and pedigree) to present a fierce challenge.

Before watching the race, it's helpful to compare both vehicles with some basic performance specs that I've compiled in the table above.

The first attempt showcased a clear winner as the Model S battery was around 80% state of charge (SoC) but in the second attempt it had lost quite a bit of its SoC and Ludicrous Mode works best with a higher SoC.

However, Tesla Model S P100D with Ludicrous Mode is the world's fastest production car, period. Nice try, AMG!
But wait... what about the all-new Porsche Taycan? What can it do in a drag race versus the Tesla Model S P100DL? Well, that drama is still unfolding. But I wouldn't bet against the Tesla Model S.
