Tesla Motors Youtube Rebuttal to 'Crazy' Autopilot Videos

During the recent 3Q Tesla Motors (TSLA) earnings conference call, CEO Elon Musk noted that the emergence of Tesla owner videos demonstrated the need for Tesla to place "some additional constraints" on its new Autopilot capabilities.

In response to some of the more shall-we-say daring videos that have been uploaded, Musk noted, "I do want to emphasise, we discouraged it. There's been some fairly crazy videos on YouTube – this is not good. We will be putting some additional constraints on when Autopilot can be activated to minimize the possibility of people doing crazy things with it."

We don't know what these limitations will be just yet, but, possible updates could include some seat sensor engagement when a driver isn't at the wheel and more forceful warnings (and changes) when drivers don't engage the system properly. In any event, it's likely that Tesla Motors* felt the need to publish their own youtube videos to show Tesla Autopilot features being used properly (and impressively) during certain Model S driving situations. Three (very cool) 15-second videos were published today from Tesla Motors on their youtube channel and we wanted to showcase these for you here -- see below...

And, we also wanted to include a wonderful in-depth treatment of Tesla Autopilot from the good people at ColdFusion that's gaining a lot of popularity on youtube -- it's a stark contrast to some of the more "crazy" stuff Elon Musk referred to on the TSLA earnings call. To that end, check out this unique, documentary-style feature that's quickly going viral for its thorough overview of Tesla Autopilot. The video investigates the larger impact that Tesla's self-learning autopilot will have on driving including some insight into fantastic features we'll see in the not-too-distant future, this is must-see...
