GM EVs Can Now Use Tesla Superchargers
Great news for GM EV owners! Starting today, you can purchase a special adapter that lets your GM electric vehicle tap into Tesla's Supercharger network. This new GM NACS adapter is now available for $225 and can be ordered directly through the GM vehicle brand apps.
Once you’ve got your hands on the adapter, charging is easy. You can use the GM mobile app to find Tesla Superchargers, start a charging session, and pay for it, all from your phone. Plus, the app lets you check if the station has open spots before you drive there, saving you from waiting in line.
As more auto manufacturers shift from the Combined Charging System (CCS) to the North American Charging Standard (NACS) — which is Tesla’s charging system — adapters like this will help keep EV drivers on the road. GM, Ford, and Rivian are all moving to adopt NACS to give their customers access to Tesla’s fast-charging network. GM has plans to build NACS ports into new EVs by 2025, but until then, this adapter is a must-have for current GM EV owners.
By adding Tesla's 17,800 Supercharger stations across North America, GM drivers now have more options to keep their vehicles charged. While Ford and Rivian have offered similar adapters, GM’s comes with a price tag. Ford is charging $230 for adapters ordered after September 30, while Rivian currently provides them for free.
GM's adapter is compatible with all of its EVs and will soon be available in Canada later in 2024.
If you're a GM EV owner looking for more charging options, this adapter opens up a lot of new possibilities, making long trips and everyday charging even easier.
