Tesla Cybercabs spotted without a steering wheel or human inside ahead of launch (videos)

The Tesla (TSLA) AI team is strengthening the learning of its Unsupervised FSD ahead of the launch of Cybercabs in Austin, Texas.

Multiple Tesla Cybercab robotaxis have been spotted on the streets and highways of Austin, Texas, without any driver or human inside (Unsupervised FSD).

A few days ago, some Cybercabs were spotted in Austin, but they had steering wheels and multi-color front light bars. In the most recent sightings, no steering wheel is visible (videos below).

In the last remaining days before launch, Tesla is training its Full Self-Driving AI neural nets with as much fresh data as possible every day. This will ensure maximum safety for the users of the Cybercab robotaxis.

Tesla is already operating its Unsupervised Robotaxi Service in the entire Austin Metro Area using Model Y Juniper mid-sized electric SUVs.

On September 3, Tesla will begin offering the autonomous ride-hailing service in the City of Austin using the new Cybercab robotaxi vehicles.

The streets won’t be the same anymore.

Cybercab Operations Geofence

As I’ve mentioned above, Tesla is currently operating its Robotaxi Service in the Austin Metro Area. This is a large geofenced area.

On launch day, Tesla will confirm whether the Cybercab robotaxi service will also be available in the same expanded area, or will have a much more limited geofence to start with.

Tesla Model Y and Cybercab have very different sizes and dimensions. While the Model Y is a 4-5-seater SUV, the Cybercab is a small 2-seater car, built for autonomy from the ground up.

The smaller, more nimble Cybercab is ideally a better fit for Tesla’s Full Self-Driving AI models. So, it should perform better using the latest FSD v15 (Unsupervised).

FSD v15

In the Tesla Q2 2026 Earnings Call, the company’s VP of AI, Ashok Elluswamy, revealed that Cybercabs and Model Y Robotaxis are using earlier versions of Full Self-Driving V15 (FSD v15) software.

FSD v15 is not currently available for Tesla customer-owned vehicles. This major installment of the AI software is made for Unsupervised FSD (no human supervision required).

Customer cars running FSD v14 or earlier use Full Self-Driving (Supervised), which requires constant human monitoring and takeover during safety-related events.
