Tesla Model 3 earns Sweden's 2024 Car of the Year Award

Tesla Model 3 earns Sweden's 2024 Car of the Year Award

Tesla (TSLA) launched the design-refreshed Model 3 Highland earlier this year (US & Canada). The car with its sleek looks and improved overall design was well-received worldwide.

In the months that followed its North American launch in Q1 2024, the new Model 3 became the best-selling Tesla car surpassing the Model Y. Due to its popularity, the newly-designed Tesla Model 3 refresh sales also surged in Europe.

The US-based automaker first launched the new Tesla Model 3 in Europe last year. Now, a leading Swedish car magazine has ranked the Tesla Model 3 as #1 in its Top 10 best cars of 2024.

A notable car magazine Teknikens Värld from Sweden tested more than 70 cars to choose the top 10 best cars of 2024. This competition was not just limited to electric vehicles. The Swedish car media outlet tested both ICE (internal combustion engine) and EV cars to choose the best cars of this year.

Interestingly, the top 10 cars also included the Tesla Model Y in the 3rd position. Two of the top 3 positions are held by Tesla. This ranking by the Swedish motoring magazine is not based on car sales, it’s based on their extensive testing of these vehicles and their overall experience.

Between the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, the 2nd position is held by the Volkswagen Golf. A hatchback that is very popular in Europe. However, the Teknikens Värld staff noted that other automotive manufacturers are lagging behind Tesla in many areas. The report stated (translation):

With close to a record 79 points out of 100 in the rating compilation, the Tesla Model 3 is 2024’s highest-rated test car.

While it is the answer to the question of which new car to buy, it raises the question: How can the other car manufacturers still not have caught up with Tesla?

Tesla is facing a labor strike in Sweden for over a year now. Despite the automotive union’s actions against Tesla, the automaker does not stop winning the hearts of Swedish automotive and EV enthusiasts.

The new design cues and improvements in the interior and exterior of the updated Highland Tesla Model 3 were the reason it won the best 2024 car in Sweden. Tesla also launched the new Quicksilver color for Model 3 in Europe in July. This added to the popularity of the vehicle in the region.

The pre-launch codename of this new Tesla Model 3 refresh was Project Highland under which this electric car was developed. This model proved to be a successful idea for Tesla in 2024.

A similar Project Juniper Model Y refresh is in the works and is due to go into production in 2025. However, Tesla is successful in hiding the new changes and design-refresh upgrades. It’s expected to be revealed in Q1 2025.

Stay tuned as we prepare to give you the best Tesla news and content in 2025. Happy New Year in advance!
