Installation
Installation Guide
When used properly, our caliper paint offers a superior, and lasting finish. For unbeatable results, the working area should be cleaned and prepped thoroughly. POR-15 Cleaner Degreaser, Metal Prep and Rust Preventive Coating will provide a long-lasting finish while preventing rust and corrosion.
IMPORTANT: To properly apply Red Caliper Paint and achieve long-lasting, high-quality results, you will also need the following items, available in our Super Starter Kit for Caliper Paint: (1) two small paint brushes, (2) a pair of high-dexterity surgical latex gloves, (3) POR-15 Cleaner Degreaser, (4) POR-15 Metal Prep and (5) POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating (gloss black).
Installation Instructions
Step 1: Remove all four wheels from the vehicle. Calipers don’t need to be removed. Do not remove the brake line.
Step 2: Clean surfaces to be painted with POR-15 Cleaner Degreaser. Spray on the cleaner and brush the dirt, grease and grime with a small scrub brush or toothbrush. Wear protective gloves and glasses when cleaning your calipers. Read directions on POR-15 Cleaner Degreaser container before using.
Step 3: Rinse the cleaned caliper thoroughly with water and allow to dry completely. Now apply POR-15 Metal Prep and keep surface wet for 20 minutes and then wash off POR-15 Metal Prep with water and dry thoroughly.
Step 4: Mask off the areas not to be painted. Tape off the brake bleeder screw, brake lines, caliper piston boots, and anything else you don’t want to be painted. This step is VERY important and should be performed with care. When in doubt, mask a surface, even if it is not immediately adjacent to the work area.
Step 5: Open the small can of POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating and stir, making sure the contents are thoroughly mixed. Using a foam brush (included in your kit) paint the caliper evenly, making sure the coating is evenly applied but not to the point where the paint runs. Because this is a rust preventive coating you want to be sure you don’t miss any spots which could rust later if not covered.
Step 6: When the POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating is just dry to the touch, with slight finger-drag remaining, normally in the 2-5 hour range, it’s ready for the POR-15 Red Caliper Paint to be applied. Open the can of POR-15 Red Caliper Paint, stir thoroughly, and apply the first coat in thin but even strokes. When the first coat is dry (3 -4 hours), apply a second coat to achieve a beautiful ceramic-like finish.Let dry 24 hours before reassembling wheels and operating you vehicle.
Note: These products should only be handled when wearing latex gloves, eye protection, and NOSHA approved respirators. Always work in a well-ventilated area.
