To remedy the problem, EVANNEX designed and fabricated a simple, unobtrusive pull-strap which allows you to lift the cover of the storage space and use it as it was intended—to store items you want to remain unobserved from the outside.

The Model Y hidden storage space complements trunk well storage and provides a large, secret compartment approximately 34 in. W x 19 in. L x 6 in. D (86.4 cm x 48.2 cm x 15.2 cm) which can hold anything of value you don’t want visible from the outside—even when the trunk hatch is open.
The hidden storage space cover is heavy and fits snugly, abutting the hatch for the trunk well, the sides of the Model Y trunk space, and the back of the second row seats. In order to remove the hidden storage space cover, you must first lift up the trunk well hatch, balance it with one hand, and then reach in and pull up the storage space cover. It works, but it’s not very convenient.

(11.5 cm) loops at each end to enable easy pull for the OEM hidden storage space cover. The pull-strap is fastened directly to the storage space cover using VELCRO® pads sewn into the strap. The pull-strap is attached under the hidden space cover, so it does not come into contact with any item in the trunk. In addition, the pull loops are only 4.5 inches long and sit on the sides of the trunk against the wheel wells. They do not get in the way of anything stored in the trunk.
Do I need both hands to open the cover using the pull-strap or can I do it with one hand?
All you need is one hand, pulling on either the driver or passenger side loop. The cover pops right up.

Step-by-Step Installation Instructions
The EVANNEX Hidden Storage Space Pull-Strap for Model Y is simple to install and requires no tools. Here are the steps required to install the pull-strap:
Step 1. Lift up the trunk well hatch so you can reach under and pull up the cover for the hidden storage area. Lift it up and out of your Model Y.
Step 2. Using your trunk floor as a work area, flip the hidden storage space cover so that the underside faces upward and affix the pull strap approximately 0.5 in. (12 mm) from the rear edge of the cover. Be sure that the loops at each end of the strap protrude over the sides evenly. Press down on the VELCRO® pads to adhere the strap to the underside of the cover fabric.
Step 3. Flip the cover back over and put it back into place, being sure that the two loops are accessible from the top of the cover.
