Duracell Brings Its First EV Fast Charger Network to the UK
Duracell, the name we’ve trusted for decades to keep remotes, flashlights, and toys powered is now taking on a bigger challenge: electric vehicles. The American battery giant is launching Duracell E-Charge, its first-ever EV fast charging network, and it’s starting across the pond in the UK.
The move comes as the UK pushes toward its 2030 ban on new gas and diesel cars, a change that’s accelerated both EV adoption and demand for faster charging infrastructure. Duracell plans to invest over £200 million ($266 million) across the next decade to help meet that demand, positioning E-Charge as a premium and reliable option for drivers on the go.
To make it happen, Duracell has teamed up with Elektra Charge, a new operator set up to run its branded network, while The EV Network (EVN) one of the UK’s biggest charging developers will build and fund the sites.
“The need for faster, more reliable charging to keep pace with EV adoption is clear,” said Reza Shaybani, CEO of The EV Network. “Duracell E-Charge is a direct response to that challenge.”
Each E-Charge location will feature 400 kW ultra-fast chargers capable of adding hundreds of miles of range in under 15 minutes. Drivers will be able to pay via app, contactless, or plug-and-charge, and every site will include clear signage, simple interfaces, and 24/7 customer support, all dressed in that familiar copper-top aesthetic.
The first six sites are expected to go live next year, with at least 100 charging stations and 500 total charging points planned by 2030, according to The Sunday Times. The network will focus on strategic locations. Motorway, rest stops, shopping centers, and major city gateways to make charging both accessible and convenient.
Duracell E-Charge managing director Mark Bloxham summed up the company’s mission perfectly: “Charging your car should be as simple as changing the batteries in your remote. Plug. Play. Go.”
It’s a natural evolution for a brand built on reliability. And while Duracell’s first fast-charging venture is across the Atlantic, it’s hard not to wonder what comes next. Could we see Duracell E-Charge stations lighting up American highways soon? With the U.S. EV market growing fast and the demand for consistent, high-speed charging still outpacing supply, a move stateside could be the company’s most powerful charge yet.
