Electrify America Brings Real-Time Charger Updates to Google Maps

One of the biggest frustrations for EV drivers has been pulling up to a charging station only to find every stall occupied or worse, out of service. Electrify America just took a major step toward fixing that.

The U.S. charging giant now provides real-time charger availability directly in Google Maps, letting drivers check open stalls before they even leave the driveway. The update went live this week and instantly makes road trips and commutes a bit less stressful.

Until now, anyone using Electrify America’s network had to toggle between apps, Google Maps for directions and the EA app for charger status. That extra step often meant wasted time or detours. Now, by simply tapping an Electrify America location in Google Maps, you can see how many connectors are available, what type of plugs they use, and each charger’s maximum speed from 50 kW CHAdeMO units up to the company’s fastest 400 kW CCS dispensers. Some sites even include Level 2 J1772 plugs and pilot locations with both CCS and NACS connectors.

Robert Barrosa, Electrify America’s president and CEO, called the integration a move toward confidence and convenience.

“EV adoption is accelerating, and with it comes the expectation of a seamless charging experience,” said Barrosa. “By integrating real-time charging station data, we’re empowering drivers with the confidence to go electric.”

Tesla Supercharger listings already appear on Google Maps, but they don’t yet display live stall counts. That gives Electrify America a small but meaningful edge in usability, especially for drivers juggling different EV apps.

The company is also expanding Plug & Charge support across more models, allowing compatible EVs to start charging automatically once plugged in, with billing handled in the background. Audi, BMW, Ford, Lucid, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Porsche, and Volkswagen drivers can already use it, while Rivian plans to roll out compatibility through a software update soon.

Electrify America currently operates over 1,090 fast-charging stations and 5,199 individual charging ports across the U.S., according to the Department of Energy. Integrating live charger data into Google Maps might seem like a small update, but for anyone who’s ever pulled up to a “charging full” message, it’s a game changer.
