Hyundai Celebrates the 35th Anniversary of the Iconic Grandeur with an Electrifying Retro Concept

Hyundai is taking a trip down memory lane with the unveiling of their new Heritage Series Grandeur concept. This electrifying retro model celebrates the 35th anniversary of the original 1986 Hyundai Grandeur flagship sedan, while showcasing design elements that connect it to modern EVs like the IONIQ 5.

The Heritage Series Grandeur combines '80s nostalgia with cutting-edge electric technology and a luxurious modern interior. Hyundai first launched the Grandeur in 1986 as their top-of-the-line sedan. Over the past 35 years, the Grandeur has evolved through 6 generations, eventually becoming the Hyundai AZERA we know today.

For this special anniversary, Hyundai has taken the original 1986 Grandeur design and reimagined it for the 21st century. While the Heritage Series Grandeur won't be going into production, it represents Hyundai's commitment to honoring their iconic models while pushing their designs into the future.

Retro Meets Modern

The Heritage Series Grandeur's exterior maintains the classic silhouette of the original, but with modern updates. Most notably, it features Hyundai's signature Parametric Pixel lights, a design element shared with the IONIQ 5 electric vehicle. This lighting style creates a unique visual identity that bridges Hyundai's past and future.

Like the IONIQ 5, which subtly nods to the classic Hyundai Pony, the Heritage Series Grandeur shows how Hyundai's rich heritage inspires their forward-thinking designs. Under its vintage-inspired body, the concept is powered by an all-electric powertrain, further connecting it to Hyundai's electric future.

Luxurious Interior

Inside, the Heritage Series Grandeur blends '80s aesthetics with cutting-edge technology. The dashboard features a wide digital display and a vertical infotainment screen, reminiscent of the IONIQ 5's innovative interior. Retro details like the single-spoke steering wheel and aircraft-style gear selector add character.

The interior uses a mix of burgundy velvet and Napa leather, creating a plush and nostalgic feel. Storage spaces are designed with the elegance of high-end furniture, including a hidden watch slot in the center console.

Advanced Audio and Lighting

The Heritage Series Grandeur boasts a 4-way speaker system designed by a renowned sound engineer. This setup offers exceptional audio quality, filling the cabin with immersive sound. A virtual piano feature on the digital display allows for creative music-making on the go.

Ambient bronze lighting flows throughout the interior, highlighting elegant details and creating a spacious feel. This attention to lighting design is another element shared with the IONIQ 5, known for its customizable interior ambient lighting.

Looking to the Future

The Heritage Series Grandeur is part of Hyundai's ongoing exploration of their brand heritage. Like the IONIQ 5, which reimagines retro design for the electric age, this concept shows how Hyundai is bridging its past successes with its vision for the future.

As Hyundai continues to expand its electric vehicle lineup, we can expect to see more innovative designs that pay homage to classic models while pushing the boundaries of automotive technology. The Heritage Series Grandeur gives us a glimpse of how Hyundai's rich history will continue to influence its exciting electric future.
