Drag Race: Tesla Model 3 Performance vs. Porsche 911 GT2 RS

Want to check out an epic showdown between the internal combustion engine and electric drivetrain as they race against one another? This isn't just any showdown between gasmobile and EV. The Porsche 911 GT2 RS faces off against Tesla's Model 3 Performance in an adrenaline-filled drag race video produced by Formula 1 champ Nico Rosberg.

The Porsche 911 GT2 RS is a thoroughbred race car built for the kill — a two door, two passenger, rear-wheel drive beast loaded with a 3.8-liter turbocharged flat-6 engine; 700 hp, 553 lb-ft; 7-speed automatic transmission — price: $294,250.

For context, Car and Driver describe the GT2 RS as follows:

The brutal GT2 RS is the chainsaw of the 911 lineup compared with the scalpel-like GT3. Its 700-hp twin-turbo flat-six drives the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic for a claimed 2.7-second zero-to-60-mph time—conservative, we think—and powered this fastest-ever 911 to a record lap at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Steering is laser direct, and the rear slides—controllably—if directed; the brakes are amazing, with no fade present during repeated high-speed stops on track.

Tesla's Model 3 Performance, on the other hand, is a five passenger, 4-door sedan, all-wheel drive with a 0-60 mph time of 3.2 seconds. This top-tier variant of the Model 3 is certainly tweaked for performance but not born for the track — price: $58,000.

The video is beautifully shot in Monaco's scenic harbor, perhaps the most stunning drag strip on the planet. Drone shots make the footage even more thrilling. In any event, let's check out who emerges as the winner of this intense drag race — all brought to life by Nico's skillful video editing and hosting skills.

Yep, the finish is surprising — Model 3 Performance wins by a small margin but that counts a lot in a drag race. It's another example of a gas guzzler slain by an all-electric performance car. And don't forget you can buy almost five Tesla Model 3 Performance cars for the price of one Porsche GT2 RS, just plain crazy.

Nico originally planned to drag race the GT2 RS with an Energica electric motorcycle but karma stepped in and it turns out, instead, that the Model 3 Performance made some electrifying history. While the video above doesn't provide a drag race stats slip, the results speak volumes — it's official, a new predator is hunting the ICE beast.
