Tesla still intends to give away the new Tesla Roadster to Referral Award winners
After the unveiling of the previous prototype of the Tesla Roadster in 2017, Tesla (TSLA) added it as a Referral Program award.
This was the biggest prize that the electric automaker has ever offered in its Referral Program. The 2017 Referral Program pushed Tesla owners to refer 50 customers who bought a Model S or X to win a free next-gen Roadster.
Although it was a difficult task, around 80 media influencers, bloggers, and YouTubers achieved it with their reach. Some of them were MKBHD, Bjorn Nyland, and my friend from Belgium, Steven Peeters.
I was watching MKBHD’s video on last week’s Tesla Roadster unveiling. He shared a screenshot of his Tesla account’s Referral Program section, which showed that the Tesla Roadster referral award is still there.
Not only is the award available in this section, but Tesla also updated the Roadster image to reflect the new model unveiled last week.
This is interesting, as the automaker seems to be keeping its promise to give winners free Roadsters.
Some influencers even won two Tesla Roadsters in the 2017 Program. Tesla later discontinued it and relaunched in 2019 with limited Roadster awards.
To further confirm the updated Tesla Roadster referral award, I nudged my friend Steven Peeters to check his Tesla account. He confirmed that the Roadster image has been updated and the award is still there.
I further asked him to click on the ‘Learn More’ link you can see in MKBHD‘s screenshot above and send me a screenshot of that. He was kind enough to do that for me.
Learn More link just pops open a dialog and says:
Roadster Referral Fulfillment
We will reach out to you with additional details when they become available.

In the post-Tesla Roadster reveal, the company’s executives have revealed that a ‘base’ Tesla Roadster variant is in the works, besides the three versions currently offered.
According to various reports, Tesla will give this base Roadster variant (without suction fans and thrusters) to Tesla Referral Program winners.
Tesla expects to begin production of the Roadster in 2028. However, producing these free Roadsters will be Tesla’s last priority, and deliveries might be delayed by a couple more years.
