Description

From the factory, Tesla equips their Model 3 with fiberboard or plastic belly plans. While ideal for maintaining low manufacturing costs and saving weight, these belly pans disintegrate with mild impacts with road debris - or from light off-road driving. Even the most carefully driven Tesla will experience years of repeated exposure to water, road salt, and general wear and tear. Protecting fragile coolant lines and high-voltage wiring (not to mention the leading edge of the $15,000 battery pack!) damage to the factory front belly pan, or an imminent impact from an inbound hazard, leaves these expensive components in harm's way. Cars missing their belly pan entirely are driving around with a perpetual range penalty due to the inherent loss of aerodynamic efficiency.

When selecting an upgraded belly pan, or skid plate, the devil is in the details. In engineering a best-in-class skid plate, we had some requirements:

It needed to be strong - really strong. To us, there isn't much point in upgrading if you're still going to fall victim to the same fate as the factory belly pan.

It needed to be as flat and as smooth as possible. Our team of engineers has experience in the design of skid plates for a variety of low-riding enthusiast models, and understand the consequence of having protruding features and fasteners. Any element that is not smooth may catch on road debris, speed bumps, and certainly airflow, having a negative impact on aerodynamics, efficiency, and range.

What we came up with is a skid plate that is stronger and smoother than any alternatives, while fitting and looking terrific.

Manufactured from 8-gauge (.129") 5052 aluminum, and featuring both flush and recessed fasteners - the latter featuring aero plugs for a super-smooth underbody - our engineers have achieved our goals. By specifically designing this plate to be smooth, we were able to improve on the factory belly pan, which has exposed recessed fasteners, inherently causing more turbulence than our design. Whether you're commuting in your Model 3, or hitting some forest service roads in your Model Y, this smooth underbody upgrade provides peace of mind for any Tesla owner.

Factory aero features are retained, including aero tunnels, which in our skid plate are designed to maintain aero efficiency at factory ride height or when utilizing lowering springs.
